Think you’d like to step into the shoes of a professional designer? Join Dabble design contributor Nyla Free for a Reality Check. It starts with a plan. Having exhausted its purpose for 30 years, clients asked Nyla to transform their master ensuite into a simple, light-filled space. With a preference for neutral colour firmly established she looked for an opportunity to introduce pattern and depth into the spacious room. Tile seemed an ideal candidate for the task.

Reality Check: Choosing Bedding

Why is the master bedroom frequently the most design-neglected room in the house? Nyla Free says even professional interior designers are guilty of giving precedence to more public spaces like the living room or kitchen. “I’m through hiding under the covers,” says the Dabble design contributor. When it comes to decorating the bedroom, outfitting the actual bed is perhaps the most important design consideration, since it’s nearly always the focal point of the room. Follow Dabble’s step-by-step guide to selecting stylish bedding.

Branding Your Business: Do people REALLY know your value?

Spring is in full bloom, as witnessed by the number of new puppies I am meeting in the dog park with my 4½ year dog named Cormac. The dog park is a great place to connect with people and it was just a couple of weeks ago I was talking to a couple about their renovation project. They were in the process of hiring a contractor, but were not thinking about hiring a designer. I asked them why and they said to me quite matter of factly, "we know the colours and style of furniture we want for our new living room and kitchen." I know what you are thinking, and I was thinking that too!! So I gently began to explore their understanding of what a designer could provide to the successful completion of their project.
